"Remembrance"
Maria D'Angelo - Fine Art in Pencil
11" x 8" Nero pencil on bristol
This piece was inspired by Cecil - the beautiful African lion who was lured off the Hwange National Park in Zimbabwe and killed by a trophy hunter. Cecil had been a major attraction at the park and was being studied and tracked by Oxford University as part of a larger study.

from the sale of the original drawing, prints and merchandise will be donated to WildlifeNow.
George Adamson is known as “The Lion Man of Africa” and is one of my childhood heroes. He is one of the founding fathers of wildlife conservation. WildlifeNow was founded in his memory after he was brutally murdered by Somali bandits in Northern Kenya. He is buried between the lions he loved. He is best known from the book and film "Born Free," the story of Elsa. It is about an orphaned lioness raised and released successfully into the wild by Adamson and his wife, Joy. The organization has been active for almost four decades and is considered one of the foremost authorities in the area of African wildlife conservation. They work to re-establish ecosystems, protect endangered African wildlife, and develop partnerships with local villages to educate future generations of Africans about conservation efforts.
I hope this will be a good way to honor Cecil.
